From the F version onwards the use of the full Balkenkrauz was slowly reduced as the war went on. 850mm was used as a factory standard on most 109’s, the white area being more pronounced on the fuselage and lower wing. The wing size was increased to 950mm and it is suspected that this was because only the white cross was finally used.
