Flown by Adolf Galland this scheme is sometimes portrayed in an upper surface three tone camouflage, but third colour (RLM 61) was applied only after the plane was handed over from 3 to the Nationalist Gruppo de Cadena 4-G-2. Galland had the Maltese Cross as a personal symbol during the Spanish Civil War having it painted in the black fuselage circle. Galland flew almost all of his 300 missions in Spain with this particular aircraft and it bore his famous Mickey Mouse painted on the port side of the fuselage, plus the inscription ‘Limon’ under the cockpit.
